US pop star Prince dead at 57
US music icon Prince has died at the age of 57.
The singer had a medical emergency last week that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois.
He was hospitalised with severe flu-like symptoms.
The singer cancelled one concert due to illness this month.
According to reports, his body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning.
Prince became an international superstar in 1982 after his breakthrough album 1999.
He also sold more than 100 million records during his career and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain in 1985.
Fans have already jumped onto to Twitter to express their disbelief at the news:
Wow. Such heartbreaking news! Seeing Prince live in Toronto was easily the best show I've ever seen. Such a legend. RIP to the artist. ?
